RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has given people much free time. With this, the researchers want to encourage these people to read instead of scrolling through social media. A barrier to reading for many people is not knowing what to read and disinterest in popular books that they would find when they search online. The existing websites that encourage book reading rely on social networking for their recommendations, while the collaborative filtering algorithms applied to books do not exist in the mobile application form. Readwell is a book recommender Android app with a Point-of-Sales System created using Java, Python, and SQLite databases. The information regarding the books was web scraped from the Goodreads website. It aims to apply the more efficient collaborative filtering algorithm to an accessible mobile application that allows users to directly buy the books they are interested in, thus encouraging the reading and buying of books. The researchers created unit test cases to validate the different functionalities of the application. © 2022 IEEE.

RESUMO

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare congenital condition, characterized by multiple venous malformations that may involve any organ system, most commonly the skin or the gastrointestinal tract. These lesions are often responsible for chronic blood loss and secondary anemia, and in rare situations may cause severe complications such as intussusception, volvulus, and intestinal infarction. Intussusception as a complication of BRBNS, although a known complication of the disease, has rarely been reported, especially in the Philippines. In the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, only 2 cases of BRBNS are currently included in the organization, including the patient presented in the case report. The treatment of BRBNS that involves the gastrointestinal tract depends on the extent of intestinal involvement and severity of the disease. The treatment aims to preserve the GI tract as much as possible due to the high recurrence in the disease. In this case report, we present a 13 year-old male with BRBNS with previous history of intussusception, successfully managed conservatively;however, upon recurrence, underwent exploratory laparotomy wherein a subcentimeter perforation in the antimesenteric border of the proximal ileum was noted, together with a gangrenous intussuscipiens, and multiple mulberry-like formations on the antimesenteric border of the small bowels. Histopathological findings of the resected bowels showed multiple cavernous hemangiomas consistent with BRBNS. The postoperative course of the patient was unremarkable.Copyright © 2023 The Authors

RESUMO

In order to determine the panorama of secondary education teachers who received training in ICT use before the transition to e-teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru, this study is presented with a quantitative, descriptive and trending approach. For this, three Surveys to Peruvian Teachers (ENDO) carried out by Ministerio de Educación del Perú before the pandemic, in 2014, 2016 and 2018 were analyzed. The total of secondary education teachers who participated in each year, respectively, were 3710 (78.5% = urban, 21.5% = rural), 3986 (81.9% = urban, 18.1% = rural) and 6118 (85.3% = urban, 14.7% = rural). After the analysis, it can be concluded that number of teachers trained in 2014 decreased in 2018 that classroom-based modality was the predominant one in these trainings, and Amazon region is the one that presents the most worrying figures. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

RESUMO

This study with a quantitative, descriptive and trend approach aims to determine situation of technological resources that secondary education teachers had in Peru just before the transition to e-teaching due to COVID-19. For this, three Surveys to Peruvian Teacher (ENDO) carried out by Ministerio de Educación del Perú before the pandemic, in 2014, 2016 and 2018 were analyzed. The total of secondary education teachers who participated in each year, respectively, were 3710 (78.5% = urban, 21.5% = rural);3986 (81.9% = urban, 18.1% = rural) and 6118 (85.3% = urban, 14.7% = rural). After analyzing three variables that make up technological context dimension (electricity access, technological devices access and Internet access), it can be concluded that trends do not reveal a clear improvement between 2014 and 2018, and the main difficulty was the Internet access, especially in the regions of Amazonas and Pasco. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

RESUMO

Teenagers currently have free access to the internet, which could become a problem if it is not managed properly. During the COVID-19 pandemic, most people were confined to their homes and the internet allowed them to stay connected. The younger population is going through a stage of curiosity, generating a dependency on the use of technology and this has consequences for their mental health. The objective of the study is to estimate the level of relationship between anxiety and Internet use in adolescents from a school in the city of Cayambe, Ecuador. For the research, a quantitative approach was used, which manages the collection and analysis of data to answer one or several questions of the study. For the selection of the sample, an intentional non-probabilistic sampling was carried out with a total of 100 students. With this, the reagents were applied to all the students of the selected school, from eighth grade to twelve grade. The reagents used for the present study were the IDARE (stai - state-trait anxiety inventory) Trait and State Anxiety Test and the IAT Internet Addiction Test. Following this, as a result of the investigation, the average level of state anxiety and a high level of trait anxiety were obtained. Also a medium level in the use of the internet in the study participants, which demonstrates the presence of a broad problem. © 2022 IEEE.

RESUMO

This study with a quantitative, descriptive and trend approach aims to determine the panorama of kindergarten teachers who received training on the use of ICT before the covid-19 pandemic. To do this, three Surveys to Peruvian Teachers (ENDO) carried out by Ministerio de Educación del Perú before the pandemic (in 2014, 2016 and 2018) were analyzed. The total of kindergarten education teachers who participated in each year, respectively, were: 1593 (74.2 % = urban, 25.8 % = rural), 1759 (76.8 % = urban, 23.2 % = rural) and 2935 (82.2 % = urban, 17.8 % = rural). After the analysis, it can be concluded percentages, in general, are worrying: there is a sensible decrease from 2014 to 2018 in the number of trained teachers;there was a predilection for traditional model versus virtual learning, and also that quality of training they received to ICT use in the teaching-learning process is between regular and good. © 2022 IEEE.

RESUMO

Introduction: Spain went into lockdown in March of 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We had to stop the third randomization of our ongoing clinical trial (Mediavilla et al., 2019), pausing weekly group psychotherapy for 12 people with a first episode of psychosis. Only 5 weekly sessions had been delivered, thus many were just starting to form a therapeutic link with the group. In a public health emergency context, psychotherapeutic groups are considered avoidable gatherings. However, stopping psychological therapy abruptly can make participants more vulnerable. The intervention groups were launched in an online format because we could not let anyone go without psychological support in such a difficult time. Objective(s): Communicate how we adapted an ongoing clinical trial to an online format during the lockdown in Spain. Method(s): In light of our participants' needs and their acute deterioration the first two weeks of lockdown, we adapted our intervention. First, both arms (mindfulness-based v. psychoeducational multicomponent intervention) began online adaptations of the interventions. Second, a research assistant made weekly phone calls to provide basic psychosocial support, assure participants groups would continue, and later remind them of each online session. Third and last, the phoneline was accessible 24/7 (WhatsApp). Result(s): The third randomization concluded in December. Six participants were lost in the transition to online groups. However, adherence was comparable to the previous two randomizations (4/12 completed the intervention). Conclusion(s): Online psychotherapy may be used in emergencies such as a lockdown. However, the psychological mid- and longterm effects of a lockdown and online group therapy remain unknown.

RESUMO

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a significant impact on the mental health of health workers that has brought many hospitals to launch immediate preventive mental health programs. Objective(s): (1) To adapt and enhance a smartphone app (PRESTOapp) for health workers with mental health symptoms related to the COVID-19, and (2) to demonstrate its potential effectiveness in significantly reducing anxiety-depressive and PTSD symptoms in this population. We aim to incorporate Natural Language Processing (NLP)-based techniques in a chatbot userinterface that will enable a more personalized and accurate monitoring and intervention. Method(s): An 18-months study with a 6-months preliminary phase to adapt PRESTOapp to health workers, enhance it with NLP-based techniques and chatbot user-interface, and evaluate its feasibility, and effectiveness in 12-months. Result(s): PRESTOapp has the potential to provide a prompt, personalized and integral response to the mental health demand due to the COVID-19. It will help by providing an innovative digital platform, that will allow remote monitoring of the symptoms course, provide brief psychotherapeutic interventions, and detect urgent situations. If the preliminary results of this study point to a potential effectiveness of the intervention, PRESTOapp may be easily adapted to the general population. Conclusion(s): PRESTOapp may be one of the key digital platforms that may help preventing and treating potentially severe mental health consequences. Considering the unresolved problem of burnout in health workers even before the COVID-19, this project will develop the necessary technology for implementing cost-effective mental health solutions, not only during the pandemic.

RESUMO

Introduction: Long-term COVID-19 effects has been recently described as persistent and prolonged symptoms after an acute and severe SARS-COV-2 (1). An important concern is that the sequelae of severe COVID-19 may suppose a substantial outpatient's burden for the specialized services in reopening pandemic phase (2). Objective(s): To describe the frequency of mental health service use in COVID-19 hospitalized patients after discharge and to estimate the costs associated to the post- discharge consultations. Method(s): We used a 1-year follow-up cohort of 1455 COVID-19 inpatients hospitalized in La Paz University Hospital of Madrid, Spain between March 16th and April 15th, 2020. Data were retrieved from Psychiatry Service (PS) electronic health records and we described the frequency of mental health reason for consultation. We used information published by the Madrid health Office to estimate the cost of initial and following appointments. Result(s): Our sample consisted of 1,455 patients admitted with a COVID-19 diagnosis between March 16th and April 15th, 2020, and then discharged. Roughly half of them were men (776, 53%), 238 (16%) had a prior history of mental health problems, and 44 (3%) died. 193 participants (13%) visited the mental health department after being discharged. The total cost was estimated in 103,581 USD, of which two-thirds corresponded to patients with prior history of mental health problems. Conclusion(s): Our results indicate that the mental health burden of severe COVID-19 inpatient s after discharge was substantial during the first year of follow-up. This generate important economic impact to mental health providers and society at large.

RESUMO

Introduction: The pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) has caused high rates of morbidity and mortality. The use of adequate diagnostic methods to identify the evolution of this disease is necessary;computerized tomography (CT) is of the main tools by image, with sensitivity of 96-99%. Different studies have created scales to evaluate the extent and severity of lung disease from COVID-19, with a variability in the results. Objective: To evaluate the use of a tomographic scale (TS) to determine the severity of lung affectation in COVID-19. Material and methods: Analytical cross-sectional study including patients with confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 and initial CT. ATS was used to evaluate the lung affectation, to identify pulmonary pattern and to establish the state of the disease. Statistical analysis consisted in descriptive and analytical statistics (ROC curve). Results: 151 patients, mean age 50 years. The predominant pulmonary pattern was «crazy paving» (46%), identified in the phase of progression. The area under the ROC curve was 0.831 (95% CI: 0.764-0.898), with a cut-off value of 16.5 to discriminate the severe from non-severe affectation, with sensitivity 84% and specificity 74%. Conclusion: The use of TS in initial CT showed an acceptable sensitivity to identify the severity of the disease.
